Set Top Box Plastic Display Lens Mould and Moulding Service
Set Top Box Plastic Display Lens Mould and Moulding Service | Renovator Appliances Ltd
Product Overview
The Set Top Box Plastic Display Lens Mould and Moulding Service is designed for manufacturing precision-moulded plastic display lenses used in digital set top boxes, DTH receivers, cable TV boxes, and IPTV devices. The display lens is positioned in front of the display or indicator area and helps transmit, diffuse, or protect the visible light and information generated by the electronic display assembly.
The display lens can be customized according to the display type, dimensions, viewing area, LED arrangement, mounting method, light-transmission requirements, and front-panel design. Depending on the application, the lens may be designed as a clear, translucent, tinted, smoked, or diffused component. Features such as locating tabs, mounting clips, retaining grooves, ribs, snap-fits, and alignment features can be incorporated according to the product design.
Injection moulding provides consistent optical geometry, dimensional repeatability, controlled surface finish, and reliable fitment with the display and front-panel assembly. For optical applications, mould surface quality and processing conditions are particularly important because scratches, flow marks, bubbles, or surface imperfections can affect the appearance and light transmission.

Manufacturing Process
1. Product Design & Development
The display lens is developed according to the display dimensions, LED arrangement, viewing area, front-panel geometry, mounting method, and required optical appearance. CAD drawings, 3D models, technical specifications, optical requirements, or physical samples can be used for development.
2. Plastic Mould Design
A dedicated injection mould is designed according to the lens geometry. Cavity configuration, parting line, gate location, ejection system, cooling arrangement, draft angles, optical surface requirements, and wall-thickness distribution are carefully considered.
3. Mould Manufacturing
The mould components are precision-machined, assembled, polished or textured according to the required lens finish, and inspected. P20 Steel, S136 Steel, H13 Steel, or another suitable mould material can be selected according to production quantity, optical surface requirements, and expected mould life.
4. Injection Moulding
The selected optical or suitable engineering plastic is heated and injected into the mould cavity under controlled processing conditions. After cooling and solidification, the mould opens and the finished display lens is ejected.
5. Finishing & Assembly Preparation
Moulded lenses are inspected for flash, gate marks, scratches, flow marks, sink marks, bubbles, black spots, contamination, warpage, and other visible or optical defects. Secondary finishing, printing, tinting, or marking can be performed where required.
6. Quality Inspection
Finished display lenses are checked for dimensions, optical surface quality, transparency or diffusion, colour consistency, display alignment, mounting features, and fitment with the front-panel and display assembly.
Raw Materials
| Material | Typical Application |
|---|---|
| Polycarbonate (PC) | Suitable for display lenses requiring good impact performance and optical characteristics |
| PMMA / Acrylic | Commonly considered for transparent optical and display applications |
| Optical-Grade PC | Applications requiring controlled light transmission and optical quality |
| Optical-Grade PMMA | Applications requiring clarity and controlled visual appearance |
| PETG | Selected display applications requiring transparency and suitable toughness |
| Suitable Transparent Engineering Plastic | Specialized applications requiring specific optical or mechanical properties |
| Tinted Transparent Plastic | Applications requiring smoked, coloured, or filtered appearance |
| Diffused Optical Plastic | Applications requiring controlled diffusion of LED or display light |
The final material should be selected according to the required transparency, light transmission, diffusion, colour, impact resistance, operating temperature, UV exposure, surface finish, and applicable product specifications. General-purpose plastic should not automatically be assumed suitable for optical applications.
Quality Control
Raw Material Inspection: Verification of the specified resin grade, transparency, colour, and processing characteristics.
Mould Inspection: Checking cavity condition, polishing quality, parting line, cooling system, and ejection mechanism.
Dimensional Inspection: Measurement of lens length, width, thickness, mounting features, and critical interfaces.
Optical Surface Inspection: Checking the lens surface for scratches, flow marks, bubbles, black spots, contamination, and other optical defects.
Transparency Inspection: Verification of required clarity, light transmission, or diffusion characteristics.
Colour Inspection: Checking tint, shade, and colour consistency where applicable.
Display Alignment Inspection: Verification that the lens aligns correctly with the display and LED arrangement.
Mounting Feature Inspection: Checking clips, locating tabs, grooves, snap-fits, and retaining features.
Fitment Inspection: Testing compatibility with the front panel and display assembly.
Visual Inspection: Checking warpage, flash, sink marks, gate marks, and cosmetic defects.
Packaging Inspection: Protecting finished lenses from scratches, dust, contamination, and deformation during handling and transportation.
