Set Top Box Plastic IR Window Mould and Moulding Service
Set Top Box Plastic IR Window Mould and Moulding Service | Renovator Appliances Ltd
Product Overview
Set Top Box Plastic IR Window Mould and Moulding Service is designed for manufacturing precision plastic IR windows used in digital set top boxes, DTH receivers, cable TV receivers, IPTV devices, and other electronic entertainment equipment. The IR window provides a controlled passage for infrared signals between the remote control and the internal IR receiver sensor while maintaining a clean and integrated appearance on the front panel.
The IR window can be developed according to the set top box front-panel design, IR receiver position, sensor dimensions, mounting arrangement, and required optical characteristics. Depending on the application, the component can be produced in clear, translucent, tinted, smoked, or infrared-transmitting plastic with customized dimensions and surface finishes.
Precision injection moulding helps achieve consistent geometry, accurate sensor alignment, controlled wall thickness, smooth optical surfaces, and reliable fitment with the front panel or enclosure assembly.

Manufacturing Process
1. Product Design & Development
The IR window is designed according to the front-panel dimensions, IR receiver location, sensor geometry, required viewing area, mounting method, and optical requirements. CAD drawings, 3D models, samples, or technical specifications can be used for product development.
2. Plastic Mould Design
The mould is designed to achieve the required IR window geometry, wall thickness, optical surface, mounting features, and dimensional tolerances. Gate location, parting line, cooling channels, ejection arrangement, and mould-polishing requirements are considered during mould development.
3. Mould Manufacturing
The mould can be manufactured using suitable mould steel such as P20 Steel, H13 Steel, or S136 Steel, depending on production quantity, surface-finish requirements, plastic material, and application. Precision machining, polishing, mould fitting, and trial runs are carried out before production.
4. Injection Moulding
The selected plastic material is processed and injected into the mould cavity under controlled conditions. Injection pressure, melt temperature, cooling time, and cycle parameters are adjusted according to the selected material and component geometry.
5. Finishing & Assembly Preparation
After moulding, the IR windows are trimmed and inspected for flash, gate marks, scratches, bubbles, flow marks, sink marks, and other visual defects. Additional tinting, marking, printing, or surface treatment can be considered according to the product design.
6. Quality Inspection
Finished IR windows are inspected for dimensions, optical appearance, transparency or IR-transmission characteristics where applicable, colour consistency, sensor alignment, mounting fitment, and overall compatibility with the set top box front panel.
Raw Materials
| Material | Suitable Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Polycarbonate (PC) | Good impact resistance and optical applications |
| PMMA / Acrylic | Suitable for clear and optical plastic components |
| Optical-Grade PC | Suitable where controlled optical performance and durability are required |
| Optical-Grade PMMA | Suitable for precision transparent optical applications |
| PETG | Can be considered for selected transparent component applications |
| Infrared-Transmitting Plastic | Specialized material option where IR transmission is required |
| Tinted Transparent Plastic | Suitable for smoked or coloured IR window designs |
| Diffused Optical Plastic | Can be considered where controlled light diffusion or appearance is required |
The final material should be selected and validated according to the required infrared transmission characteristics, visible appearance, impact resistance, operating temperature, optical performance, and applicable product requirements. Not every transparent plastic automatically provides suitable infrared transmission.
Quality Control
Raw Material Inspection: Material grade, optical characteristics, colour, and batch consistency are checked.
Mould Inspection: Cavity condition, polishing quality, parting line, inserts, cooling, and ejection systems are inspected.
Dimensional Inspection: Overall dimensions, thickness, mounting features, locating points, and critical geometry are measured.
Optical Surface Inspection: The surface is checked for scratches, flow marks, bubbles, black spots, haze, sink marks, and other optical defects.
Colour Inspection: Clear, tinted, smoked, or coloured components are checked for colour consistency.
IR Transmission Validation: Where required, the material and finished component can be evaluated for compatibility with the specified infrared receiver and remote-control system.
Sensor Alignment Inspection: The IR window position is checked against the internal IR receiver location.
Fitment Inspection: Mounting tabs, grooves, clips, snap-fits, and front-panel interfaces are checked.
Visual Inspection: General appearance, finish, flash, gate marks, and moulding defects are inspected.
Packaging Inspection: Finished components are protected against scratches, dust, deformation, and contamination during storage and transportation.
