Manufacturing Process
1. Product Design & Development
The rear panel is developed according to the required set top box dimensions, PCB arrangement, connector locations, ventilation requirements, and enclosure assembly method. CAD data, samples, or technical drawings can be used for development.
2. Plastic Mould Design
The injection mould is designed according to the rear panel geometry, wall thickness, mounting bosses, connector openings, ribs, clips, snap-fits, and other functional features. Gate locations, cooling channels, ejection systems, and parting lines are planned for stable production.
3. Mould Manufacturing
The mould is manufactured using suitable mould steel such as P20 Steel, H13 Steel, or S136 Steel, depending on production quantity, surface requirements, material selection, and application. Precision machining, polishing, fitting, and mould trials are performed before production.
4. Injection Moulding
The selected plastic material is melted and injected into the mould cavity under controlled processing conditions. Proper injection pressure, temperature, cooling, and cycle parameters are maintained to achieve consistent rear panel dimensions and appearance.
5. Finishing & Assembly Preparation
After moulding, components are trimmed and inspected for flash, gate marks, sink marks, warpage, scratches, and other visible defects. Additional processes such as marking, printing, or surface finishing can be considered according to the product requirement.
6. Quality Inspection
Finished rear panels are checked for dimensions, connector opening accuracy, mounting features, ventilation openings, enclosure fitment, surface appearance, and overall assembly compatibility before packing.
Raw Materials
| Material | Suitable Characteristics |
|---|---|
| ABS | Good appearance, rigidity, and general enclosure applications |
| HIPS | Suitable for lightweight electronic enclosure components |
| PP | Lightweight and suitable for applications requiring flexibility |
| PC+ABS | Good balance of impact resistance, rigidity, and dimensional performance |
| PC | Suitable where higher impact resistance and dimensional stability are required |
| PBT | Suitable for selected electrical and engineering applications |
| Nylon | Useful for applications requiring higher mechanical strength |
| Glass-Filled Nylon | Enhanced rigidity and structural performance where required |
| Flame-Retardant Plastic | Can be selected where the electrical application requires enhanced flame-retardant characteristics |
Material selection should be based on the required mechanical strength, dimensional stability, surface finish, operating temperature, electrical environment, and applicable product requirements.
Quality Control
Raw Material Inspection: Material grade, colour, and batch consistency are checked before production.
Mould Inspection: Cavity condition, inserts, cooling system, ejection system, and mould alignment are inspected.
Dimensional Inspection: Overall dimensions, wall thickness, connector openings, mounting points, and critical features are checked.
Port Opening Inspection: HDMI, USB, AV, Ethernet, antenna, power, and other openings are checked according to the approved design.
Ventilation Inspection: Vent openings, slots, and airflow-related geometry are checked for correct formation.
Fitment Inspection: Rear panel compatibility with the front/top/bottom enclosure and internal PCB assembly is verified.
Visual Inspection: Surface finish, colour, flash, sink marks, scratches, warpage, and mould marks are inspected.
Assembly Inspection: Screw bosses, clips, snap-fits, locating features, and cable interfaces are checked.
Packaging Inspection: Finished components are protected against scratches, deformation, and contamination during handling and transportation.
